TO EVERYONE WHO READS THIS PAGE, we offer this study out of love for you and love for God's Word, so...with an open heart, an open mind and an open Bible..."...search the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so..." (Acts 17:11)
One of the most consistently misunderstood teachings of Scripture is "baptism". Let us consider what the Bible says...laying aside pre-conceived notions and man-made doctrines. |
Baptism is immersion in water...
The Greek word "baptizo" (pronounced "bahp-tidz-oh") means to "dip, plunge, submerge, immerse, overwhelm". It does not and cannot mean "sprinkle" or "pour" because "sprinkle" was translated from the Greek word "rhantizo". Unfotunately, some early translators chose to transliterate (or, "Anglicanize"... creating a new English word) "baptizo" instead of translating it into English. The examples in Scripture of baptism reveal clearly that the Bible is describing and teaching a process of entering into a body of water and immersing people completely under the water.
